Prior to 1961, Bernards Township students attended Bernardsville High School, which was originally part of our Township. Ridge High School was built on land donated by George Ludlow Lee Sr., the founder and owner of the Red Devil Tool Company. As an homage to Mr. Lee's generous land donation, students voted the schools new mascot to be the "Red Devil". At the same time, because rival Bernardsville High School's colors were red and black, students also voted to further differentiate the schools by choosing green instead of red.
